I should have nought the uranium someone was trying to talk me into. What a bizarre year for me, so busy with other stuff that I have essentially no good investment theses, and it shows.

BItcoin - i believe the studies figure in the cost of mining and all associated costs of tracking into the cost it takes to each transaction. That's the only thing that makes sense.
I've heard for years now how crypto takes entire data farms of computers in order to mine, how some small towns in eastern WA and elsewhere had utility rates that were going up because crypto farmer developers came in and set up their computer warehouse operations there for their cheap electricity, etc.
It's no secret how much crypto uses energy.
It's probably not something i want to bolster and support. And for as little as i would be delving in, the effort to refute that belief would be a thousand kilowats of my energy more than i would want to invest in the exercise (being facetious, full disclosure).
Good luck.
A lot of big miners set up shop in Iceland to take advantage of cheap geothermal power. Necessity is the mother of invention.

You might want to re-think that.
It requires no infrastructure to facilitate transaction is what I meant.
And if the Bitcoin market crashes they can alter their business model to aluminum smelting. ?
How did your shorts work out?
Up through Thanksgiving. Sold most, bought back, sold most of those at a loss with market moving up, bought back some today. All and all down about 5%. Turnover, about 500%.

Bump.
Four of eight indexes on our world watch list posted YTD gains through December 7, 2020. The top performer is our own S&P 500 with a gain of 14.27%. Tokyo's Nikkei 225 is in second with a gain of 12.22% and in third is China's Shanghai with a gain of 12.0%. Coming in last is London's FTSE 100 with a loss of 13.09%.
Sums it up pretty well.
Market timing on the basis of valuation...doesn't work.
I do think we all have to be ready to rotate away from the US for the next cycle. That time will come. EM and other developed markets will outperform. I've started already, in small ways.
I guess the question is if American tech is bomb proof. If it has become so strong that it will continue to grow even if the rest of the US market is moribund.

dot com crash was because the Fed raised rates (and Japan hit a recession) - a whole bunch of start up tech companies suddenly had to actually be profitable in order to service their debt. Powell has already said they're keeping rates at 0 until 2023 and with Janet Yellen as Secretary of Treasury I'd say we're on track for Dow 50k by the end of Biden's term

In regards to the depositions and affidavits, it is not up to your reading to deem credibility, so you just wasted plenty of time. Move on to the Trump Thread where you can rehash the same topics with your peers for the next four years. Or, perhaps if there is a Special Counsel appointed to investigate Biden Family overseas business influence peddling, it will re-emerge as the Biden Thread. I am sure you can come up with plenty of LWNJ conspiracy theories.?
Read again what I wrote. It’s not me who is saying these affidavits are not credible. It is the courts. Also Trump’s legal team is saying as much by refusing to use the vast majority of them.
The bottom line is that no evidence supporting widespread voter fraud has emerged despite what your handlers are telling you.

Also, this isn't really fair. Emerging markets are volatile as fvck, that's why they're emerging. Yeah they'll 10x your return in the good times, but they'll also -20x you when times are bad.
USA for the win, investing in anything else is un-American.

The state of Texas has absolutely no standing to bring this to trial. It seems like we've entered a competition for who can be laughed out of court the hardest. Seriously, this will give judges and actual lawyers comedic material on the golf course for like the next century.
No what's interesting to note is that the Texas AG is under criminal investigation for securities fraud! I wonder if he's just trying to make himself look good for a pardon from Trump

In a general sense, I feel this way, and have been positioning as such: Tech has been outperforming in part due to a larger overall trend favoring tech's advantage in the market place, and in part due to the unique attributes favorable to it in a pandemic environment. As we ease out of the pandemic and foresee opening back up in the coming quarters, tech's larger predominance will continue, but we may also see resumed activity in other sectors. I've been looking to EM and small caps in particular and adding to those. Perhaps most importantly, though, i am not selling tech.
Nice, but the current PE is over 40.
