what do you guys think of this? i mean...couldn't you just do some training in a hotter climate? i know it worked, obviously, but does this sound safe? 20-milers in layers of clothing?
maybe because i live in Louisiana and cannot fathom adding clothes, but --- what do you guys think?
You could do some training in a hotter environment but that would also require leaving home. In addition to the expense, you also leave behind a lot of "comfort".
Running in extra layer of clothes is a recommendation from folks like Larry Armstrong (who is very knowledgeable on the issue of heat).
I am coaching a fellow right now to run a marathon in FL in January. I am going to have him running on the treadmill the last two weeks before he goes since the winter where I live will not offer the acclimitization he needs.
Kastor followed the advice given at the marathon "summit" held in San Diego in the spring.
