Who is going to be the next Ben Saarel/John Crossley type of kid that comes out of nowhere to have a monster year?

Nathaniel Hall-Atlee (VA)
Junior Year-15:33, 4:18, 9:13
Those are maybe top-100 times for the country. Not exactly in the same league as a Ben Saarel type guy.

Top-100 returners, yeah - think 9:15 or so is the cut-off for that.
BTW, Saarel was a 9:01 guy as a junior. So, for guys that have been around 9:00 before and have a shot at really dropping that down by the end of the year... I'll go with Wilmot, if he is/gets healthy - ran 8:58 as a sophomore but had injury issues since early last fall.
Addison DeHaven is another potential breakout athlete this year... he's been around 9:00 for two years in a row (9:04 as a soph, 8:58 this year). Or Steven Fahy (Darren was pretty good, why expect Steven won't be?)
But maybe the "safest" bet would be Aaron Templeton - hasn't run as fast as DeHaven or Wilmot, but he's been healthy and improving more consistently.
Bailey Roth. Coronado high school colorado.
Ran some good steeples and miles, big time triathlete.
Should be a top guys
I will include Tony Russell of West Chester Henderson (PA) since I haven't seen his name on this site. (Although he is returning PA XC champ)
What about more under the radar like guys who arent even the best runners in their own state? Crossley was unheard of and Saarel was good(4:16/9:01) but not even close to people's watchlist nationally.
Philip Hall. He ran 4:13.03 this year at states and is only a sophomore.
Josh Kerber form Massachusetts. Remember the name.

shout out to the Trail Monkey's son! The Roths are good peeps. Sorry to see them leave GA, but glad things seem to be working out great for them in CO.
Bump
Aaron was healthy his junior year after a few problems in the spring of his sophomore year. He's a cross country guy more than a track guy--even with a sub-9:00 to his credit--and will be strong this fall. His coach has his s**t together, which goes a long way.
You can look at this from another perspective:
I under train my kids, hoping that they keep running through college and beyond.
They do not get recruited by the D1 powerhouses. Most go D3 some go D1 but at the "lower level" schools.
I have a girl who graduated with four other girls who were within a 2 year span of her.
They were recruited by major D1 powers, she was not.
At this point all are in college:
2 of them are no longer running- injuries
1 is still running but hasn't had a full, healthy college season (after 3 years).
1 is running healthy
All 4 are now slower than the girl I coached but they were all faster in high school.
In high school they all ran much more mileage than she did and their workouts were often 2-3 times what her's were.
I held back- my kids get college money (D3 gives "academic" scholarships to athletes they like- believe me) a good education and usually stay healthy enough to run forever.
They are under the radar.
Austin Tamagno of Brea Olinda HS ran 4:09 as a freshman

Which means, he is not under the radar.
Zack Langston (SC) - 4:15 Mile, 9:17 2Mile, 15:01 5km
Nik O'Brien (SC) - 4:20 1600 , 9:13 3200
Serious question here, how do you guys know about these kids? Are you guys involved in recruiting/scouting or are you just that big of fans? I love watching high school track, but I guess I haven't found any decent resources without spending a lot of time looking into it.
