Bolt is dirty. But he is in the same boat as carl lewis-too big to fail.
Bolt has over 10x as many facebook "likes" as any other T&F athlete...

This is ridiculous. Facebook likes? Think of the infrastructure built up behind Lance Armstrong with Livestrong, Nike, etc etc etc. and he went down. Tyson Gay went down. I wouldn't say it's impossible that someone somewhere along the line with influence couldn't cover it up but it is highly unlikely. Do you really see someone saying "Hey, we can't let Bolt get caught, he has like 5,000 Facebook friends!"
Yes but Armstrong went down only several years after he had essentially retired from his peak level of professional cycling. The general consensus today is that he was pretty much "protected" when he was at the height of his career winning all those TdFs.
Carl Lewis was protected.
Micheal Johnson too.
Bolt will also.
Lance ran his mouth and fought back ----- was taught a lesson.
The end

Gay would have been protected, too, if it wasn't for Travis Tygart.
Bolt going down would not ruin the sport. It would send a message to every single other athlete though that no one is too big to fall.
Bolt has to get injured or slow down before they can take him. They would also need a new young star on the rise to keep the cash flow up.

I suspect NBC and NBC Sports' ratings will increase again this year.
Everyone is talking about Tyson Gay, but what about Kim Collins? He recently PR'd at the Lausanne meet at 37 years old!
Usain Bolt is the greatest and most talented sprinter of all time.
But nobody runs 9.58/9.63 clean.
He is too big to fail, he IS T&F.
Ask a random person on the street to name 1 Pro Track athlete.
A bust on Bolt would be an Armstrong-esque PR blow for the sport.
My thoughts exactly. Lance still never failed a test. Wonder if Bolt's ego lets him drift off into the sunset to enjoy his millions in silence and seclusion. Lance's certainly did not.
Part of me wants to say that 9.58 is so out there that it *can't* be the result of drugs, because no drug out there is that good.
Another part of me wants to pat that first part of me on the head, give it a cookie, and tell it that of *course* there is a Santa Claus.
This should, however, put an end to the claims that WADA and USADA are protecting their top athletes.
chime in and vote with those who think Bolt and Blake are probably dirty....and some of the women to
btw:....if someone like Kirani James (GRN) tested positive I think I would give up hope
Re TdF, Andrew Talansky is the new hope for US. Fantastic potential, riding very well and hanging in there at 13th overall in his first TdF.
Kirani James probably is on something

.....and if so, will it be the end of track and field?
No, but I think audience interest will wane, as it has for Le Tour thanks to the widespread doping.
And honestly I think now Bolt's probably doping too. I wanted to believe he was a legit phenom...which he is to some extent, but with how closely interconnected all these athletes are, if several are doing PEDs, it's likely the rest are too.
To use an analogy borrowed from the book 'Alas Babylon," it's like shaking a haystack and having three needles fall out. It may not seem like many, but it probably means the haystack is full of em.

I think that Blake may be dirty. Bolt I can accept as a freak of nature. Blake doesn't have that advantage (plus, there was that three month drug suspension for something that wasn't illegal, but probably should have been).

Could the smaller margins of improvement be explained by improved technique or simply getting a better start at the gun?

You mean, if it wasn't for Usain Bolt.
