Time management (which the realities of running helped with), and deciding what was important to me. Over my undergrad years my GPAs for each marking period varied from 1.0 to 4.0. When I was at 4.0, I went to bed "today" every day; at 1.0, I rarely did.
With the higher GPAs I was also running 70+ mpw (with some doubles), and went to more parties. (Didn't get drunk, though--does anyone "need" to?) But I also studied during the free hours between classes, and some on the weekends. I didn't stay up past midnight, because I never had to.
And to answer your questions: I generally got up between 7am and 8 (partly depending on morning run, or not). And I had physics and linguistics majors.
