I ran a mountain marathon race a couple months agp and felt great the whole way. No IT band pain or anything. 4 days after the race I went for an easy 10 and my knee killed on the side after a few miles. I took another day off and it still hurt. I have been running for 10 years and have never had IT problems so I did not know what was wrong with me. I went to my PT and he let me know that I did jacked up my IT. Anyways it has now been 10 weeks of hell and the injury is as painful as ever.
I have been to the PT a couple times a week (ATSTM, ice, etc). I stretch and foam roll both legs like crazy and have been doing hip strengthening exercises morning and night (this is my main focus). This problem is not getting any better! I can also tell that the injured leg is not getting any more motion and stretching it morning and night for months has been a complete waste of time.
Before my race I averaged a 100 miles a weeks (all on the same type of terrain I raced on). I have tried taking time off here and there and have maybe averaged 20 miles or so per week the last couple months because of the pain. Has anyone one else ever have this problem? The PT says I might as well keep running as much as possible because taking time off will not help it.
Does anyone have any IT band recovery tricks?
