Define junk mileage
Yea, Seb Coe was a 70 miles a week type but everything off the track was a hill workout or 5:00/ mile tempo run
At least he's consistent. When he was a wee child, playing tag in the streets he insisted on wearing mud filled boots and a 50 lb plate tied to his waist. The guy was beast.
Every run serves a purpose. Recovery runs are not junk miles. They set up the intense runs.
Different runners have different abilities. Some are strength based and some speed based. Identifying which kind of runner you're working with as a coach is extremely important for development.
I have great respect for Peter Coe but he only worked with Seb. It's like having only one kid and thinking they are all the same by the way you have raised them.
Do you think Peter Snell woulod have run faster on a lighter volume training schedule? A 1:44 on a grass track was in my belief a 1:42 on one of today's tracks.
Holy F****ing Sh**. Employee 1.1 just broke 15:00 for 5000 for the 1st time at age 36.
