Exercise used to make me more hungry and I'd eat more whereas if I just dieted I'd have an overall lower net calorie for the day.
The key is swapping things - if you normally have a 300 calorie snack have a 100 calorie one and so on. DO NOT DEPRIVE YOURSELF TOO MUCH. Just make consistent small changes which total approx 500 calories a day less than you eat to maintain weight. Also don't get too caught up with calories.
Just reiterating, losing weight is 70% diet and 30% exercise. I don't have the research, but have friends who are experts.
Just drop carbs 2-3 nights a week, and eat pretty healthy. You don't have to deprive yourself. But cutting down alcohol, desserts etc is enough.
You can still eat well, just choose dinners with no or low carb options.
