Kind of tired this week. Anyways, catching up on some stuff from last week first (sorry for missing general comments, though!).
Beer mile related, in some order that feels like it makes sense:
The beer mile was done on the university track. I guess we could have done it on a high school track or something, but I'm not sure how that would have improved things. NJ truth, is it drinking in public if you're trespassing? I also think someone mentioned someone they know running 7:20. Something like that doesn't seem like it should be that hard, since running tempo pace basically gives 30 seconds time for each beer, but I'll need to go under better conditions (not feeling nauseous from food, beer that is not warm) to have any idea whether that's realistic.
More general drinking related:
I don't drink too often. If I've gone shopping and felt like buying beer (most commonly for certain seasonals, but probably not more than once a month) I might have one on some nights after dinner, but that's about it. Then there are situations in which I drink a lot (sometimes when I'm with my family, other nights when undergrads convince me to go out), but those don't happen more than once a month on average either. I guess for the most part I'm pretty solitary and don't drink too much except to try some new things (usually with beer, since it's relatively cheap and more suited towards individual portion sizes than wine and other beverages).
Next Race: West Chester Distance Night 5k, 5/31. Then get drunk at reunions (one, or maybe three, of those "once a month on average" times).
This week:
M - 11
T - 10.5
W AM 10 with 2.5, (2 min), 1, (1 min), 1.5 tempo/ PM 7
Th - 6
F - 6
Sa - 6
Su - 15 in 1:38
Total: 71.5. I knew Thursday I'd probably only run in the morning since the final for the course I TA'ed for was in the evening, there would probably be last minute questions, and the weather was crappy. But both Friday and Saturday I just felt wiped out in the afternoons. Pretty weird, since both of those mornings I felt awesome on the run. Not sure what the reason was for that, but I don't feel nearly as lethargic today, which I guess is good. Would have liked to get a second workout in on Friday or Saturday, though.
Wednesday workout: Did a couple miles of warmup on the towpath, then 2.5 miles with splits of 2:46.7, 5:27.9, 5:26 (?), a couple of minutes rest, then headed back. Decided to break up the way back into two pieces, which ended up meaning stopping after 1 mile because of missing markers. Hit 5:16.8 for the (short) mile (maybe by 12s?), then 5:34.2, 2:44.8 for the 1.5 the rest of the way in.
Numbersguy: Cool to hear your getting over your "neurosis," if that's the word. Kind of off topic, but one of my neuroses is that I've never (OK, only once) gotten a haircut when away from home over the past seven years (college and grad school). I now cut my own hair. Turns out OK, though getting some parts right (especially around the ears) took some trial and error.
Rushed: Pretty solid tempo! I agree with Pikachu that I'd probably ease into intervals a bit more, but I guess 10k often isn't too much faster than tempo, so it's probably fine.
themack: Nice mileage even with the unplanned day off!
bones32002004: Former 2 miler from the class of 2004, maybe? Welcome to the thread! I've definitely found it to be a great community that helps with training, and I hope you do too. What's your recent running history been like?
NJ truth: Not that it will be a problem soon, but if you want to know about other tracks in the area that tend to be accessible, let me know. We often do workouts at one of the nearby high school's track (they tend to finish practice by 4:45 or so, but sometimes do have lacrosse games). Good job hitting the paces on your workouts!
Pikachu: I"m probably sounding like a broken record by now, but great week!
brumrunner: Glad to have you back. Nice 5k! Glad you were able to recover to hit a personal best!
xenonscreams: Since I had to do it a couple of times earlier in the year, I'm interested in you running the 4 x 400. :P. With regards to Wednesday (and your thread on it), try not to beat yourself up about it. By now you probably have a pretty good idea of how your mind and body should feel when running, and it pays off big-time in the long term to heed those feelings.
SteveInAlaska: 630 minutes of cross training. Holy shit.
Bonham: Nice week! Sorry to hear about the bad race experience today.
np1112: Those are indeed LONG workouts. Will you be doing anything special for calories/fluids on those? Can't imagine doing the 30 mile one without a decent amount of support.
printer: I'd die if I tried to swim that far.
