I seem to remember conditions being horrible for distance running Pre's Sr. year when he destroyed the competition, and the NCAA record at Bernie Moore (LSU) June 1973 in the NCAA 3Mile.

same thing happened to me. Was running in the heat out west, went to the south and actually was seeing stars 10min in my run, walked back to my car and was ill for a bit afterwords. I eventually had to start running with electrolyte water bottles. It took me about 5 months to acclimate to the humidity. It really can make you feel like a different runner.

Not sure what you're trying to pull, but most of the people claiming bad conditions are right.
My 11-year-old son was recovering from bronchitis and asked me to take him to the meet. Wife was against it and wanted him to rest up, but I said it'd be fine and definitely regretted it.
It was horridly muggy and after 50 or so mins he was overheating and coughing up a storm. And incidentally, I've lived down here for 6+ years, and he grew up here.
I'm all for the regional meets being held but even I don't think Austin is a good place for them. Not good for the runners. Not good for anyone who wants to go see the meet.

It's really not as bad as people think. I just came back from San Francisco (so I do know a thing or two about "perfect conditions", and honestly the ambient temp during the 10k's was just fine (they ran about the same times as Derrick and Levins ran last year, if not a little faster). It gets hot in Texas, but at night it's amazing here in ATX. They started at around 9:30pm, there was a slight breeze and water stations on both straight-aways. If Jordan got killed by the heat, then she needs to get checked out by a doctor for some underlying problem. I think it's more likely she just had a bad day, and that's it. It happens. The other oregonians haven't struggled.
Look at the times over the past few regional meets: Wheating 3:37, Greer 1:46, the 5k's in 2010, Saina and Kohl looked fine, etc. They haven't suffered. Look at the Flotrack interviews too, particularly in 2010 when they first did this, they asked athletes about how the heat was affecting them and most said it was completely fine.
Was in the stands for most of the meet and heard a lotta the girls talking after the race. It was quite literally just endless frustration and "I almost considered dropping 11 laps in!" As annoying as that sort of complaining is, they've got a point. The actual championships are rarely in weather this disadvantageous to distance runners.
In addition to those who didn't run well, as far as I know, even the ones who ran well didn't like it. As a spectator, I didn't like it, even if the meet was less than an hr away from me. A lot of my friends didn't even want to make the drive to see the damn thing because they didn't want to be sitting in the stands when it was 80+ and humid. And I don't blame em. If they're going to pick a damn place to have the regional, make it somewhere that isn't under threat of such humidity.

At Falmouth '78, Hasay's future coach (Salazar) ran himself into heat stroke and near death in similar conditions (humid, not all that hot). That was a 7 mile race, not a marathon. And the other top runners finished without any major health issues.
Sometimes that's the way it goes. I guess people would be happier if Hasay ran herself into a medical case. She might be dead but at least she'd be "tough."

How many of you panzies would be complaining if the meet was in Des Moines today where it was cool, breezy and raining? I'm sure there would be a lot more complaining from sprinters, jumpers, hurdlers and throwers.
I guess you can't wait for next indoor season. Air probably too dry for you there too.
Look at the weather conditions for the Olympics in Beijing and Atlanta. Pretty hot and humid. Quit the bitching. Distance runners are truly the biggest pussies in the world. You guys all think you are so tough and then whine all of the time. No wonder you can't get any women. STFU!
