I've never understood why, upon being intentionally pegged by a 95mph heater, the batter immediately drops his bat and sprints to the mound. He drops the bat... his prime weapon. There's no need to feel bad that you've got a weapon and the pitcher doesn't, seeing as how he was the first to use a weapon against you (the ball). He threw the first blow and initiated the fight.
I know baseball players aren't the brightest, but even a caveman would know not to drop his club when fighting with a competing male.
If I got beamed by a fastball, I'd immediately sprint to the mound WITH THE BAT and go to work on the pitcher's throwing arm, knees, back, nuts, etc. I'm sure I could get 2 or 3 swings in before someone tried to tackle me. Perhaps even the teammates would hesitate to take me down since I was wielding more than just my fists.
Thoughts?
