Easy first week back on the saddle. Definitely had some kinks in the armor the first couple of days (mostly mild right IT band), so I saw my massage therapist Friday and left feeling like a new runner. I talked to her about my weak areas and tried tinkering with my form slightly (more exaggerated back armswing, landing more softly on impact but having more power on my pushoff, focusing on moving forward instead of up and down) and already felt the benefits on the past couple runs.
So my coach and I decided the summer plan is to target improving my VO2 Max and LT Threshold both through formal workouts and also by mixing it up and jumping in a series of local road races held every two weeks on Tuesday nights. The series is called No Frills and it is just that: $5 races with popsicle stick finishes. Some weeks are prediction races, others are handicapped races, and most are goofy distances since they are 1, 2, or 3 loop options of a 3.65 mile loop. My coach doesn't want me to wear watches during these race/tempo efforts as he wants me to refine my ability to just run hard and race, and not put time limits on abilities. I am actually kind of excited about a more laid-back mix of training and seeing what I am capable of running.
Hope everyone else had a great week.
