I'm turning 52 in a couple weeks and thought I was done with Marathons too. Just had no idea how I did them in the past or I found the desire. Amazing how perspective can change in a flash.
All of a sudden I remembered why it was so important to me. Seeing the above mentioned Bill Iffrig interviewed last night shifted my view on running. That PR may no longer be in reach but the competition, that's something you can have no matter what age you are. Mr Iffrig, you are someone all of us can aspire to be as a runner. Thank you.
Thinking of 2015 agip?
...or 2014.
but what are the ethics here?
It takes me forever to recover from even a raced half marathon - a full one would cost me a couple months of key spring racing - which I treasure.
So would it be wrong to take a spot if I am not intending to race? Just run? I could probably run 2:55 today...so a 3:25 BQ time would be doable right away. Then I show up in Boston and just do a run, not a race so I could recover faster?
I would feel bad taking a spot away from someone who really wanted to race for a PR.
