I was a state champion who was coached by someone who has coached state champions. I'm not saying the guy isn't a good coach, it just seems like a bit much at this time of year. I'm really just reaching for a better idea of his overall training and opinions of this type of density in the middle of the season rather than implying the coaching doesn't know what he is doing. I'm sure he is a really good coach and I know nothing of his training methods, but would like to hear about pros and cons of this type of density of training in his stellar season so far. I hope he runs sub-4 and 1:46, etc. I just think it is very easy to go a bit overboard when he is in such great shape this early with months to go.
Didn't mean it in an insulting manner. Those are genuine questions to ask but you were being slightly on the negative side here implying that this is all raw talent here and he will dramatically improve with UF's training. The team is on their second state championship in the large school division and Coach Plasencia knows what he's doing with Andres. Keep in mind the last coach to really coach someone as talented as him in Florida was Sam Vasquez and he was running in an era with other absurdly fast guys. Andres is alone out there and just having fun with it. He wants to break 9 but it's not like he's running a national championship this week.
I know Colonial's training and the kind of workout he'd do Thursday wouldn't be anything crazy before a race. It's just to get the legs moving and isn't much different than UF does a few days before a non-championship race.
As far as the gravel track, it's tough but he can't skip out on the other track girls and guys to go take him to a rubberized track everyday. Some teams aren't fortunate enough to have 24/7 access to these tracks.
