Coaches,
When did you know that it was time to move up from an assistant job to a head coaching job? I love the situation I'm in as a collegiate assistant right now (5th year), really enjoy working with the head coach, who has become a very good friend. As his assistant, he allows me input on workouts and meet schedules so it's not like it's all do as he commands. There is a good possibility that I will have an opportunity to take over a floundering program next year. While I really like the idea of taking a bottom feeder to respectability, which is what we've done the past 5 years at my current spot, I'm not sure I'm ready or want to. I really like what we have going and like the underclassmen. I also like that I can run some of the workouts with the team which allows me the chance to keep my running in focus a bit. Both of these coaching spots are part time as I work a full time job. I don't want to sound apathetic or complacent but I like where our program is right now. Am I wrong to not want to take over my own program? Any input is appreciated.
Thanks.
