I don't this is going to workout. Salazar will drop his mileage and he'll realize that Cam's greatest strength is his work ethic and not raw talent. I think he'll go the way of McDougall.
I bet he develops asthma, a thyroid issue and ends up running sub 27.
No guarantees on this one. Salazar will definitely start "working on Cam's speed" which isn't what's been working for him so far. It might make him faster, it might make him slower. That's the beauty of the sport!

Even with his mileage, Cam has always worked hard on his speed. He would spend a few weeks a year working on sprint mechanics.
I think he will work on helping Cam get stronger and faster..fixing minor discrepancies here and there..
But can anyone feel a Chris Derrick-Cam Levins rivalry between the Oregon Teams??
How are all the Levins fanboys going to react now that their "blue collar" hero is training under the hated Salazar?
So isnt the point of OTC to develop American talent so we can start winning medals? This seems to be going well with a brit who already got in the way of Galen winning gold and now Cam??

yeah, this will be hilarious. The way dolts on here indiscriminately pick up on some runner as their "hero" and jeer others. It's amazing.

McDougal had other issues to why he isnt world class, and it one of them was not dropping his mileage.
Does anyone think this is a good move for Levins?
Obviously, the main attractions of NOP are the resources/facilities and the "training partners", but I think that he'll just end up being fodder (Ulrey) for Rupp and Farah.
I would have rather seen him join a group where he would be the top dog and get more individualized attention. Brad Hudson maybe?
Salazar is extremely arrogant, but I'm excited for Cam to have a new coach and very interested to see how they work together.
Quote for those assuming Salazar will cut Cam's mileage "in half":
"Levins said he and Salazar connected quickly in their meeting, and he felt especially comfortable because Salazar also favored a high-mileage approach during his own career. (Last November, Levins put in at least one week of 190 miles). Levins said with Salazar's guidance and the state-of-the-art facilities available at the Nike campus in Beaverton, he could improve his own durability by improving his body strength, something he had not focused on previously.
"Because he himself went through high mileage throughout his career that he sees where I am in my career," Levins explained. "It's obvious that he wants to keep me healthy and sees the longevity of my career years down the road. I think it's kind of obvious how much mileage I can put in and the durability of my body. But there are other aspects that need work and he's going to address that." He added: "He wants to make me faster, he wants to makes sure my body becomes stronger and more resistant to injuries."
