Just a quick congrats to friend and Cal Coast clubmate, Christian Cushing-murray, for breaking the American Men's age 45-49 record for 1500 meters with his 3:55.09 at the Oxy Distance Carnival (Occidental College, Los Angeles) last night.
As Cush says, that's only about 100 meters slower than his open mile PR, also 3:55, set when he was 27 years old ... yep, almost two decades ago.
The previous record of 3:56.39 was held by John Hinton.
I personally thanked Cush for running 1500 meters and taking down Hinton's mark, rather than entering the 5000 and going after mine for the age group ... hey, what are clubmates for?! But seriously, that one's just waiting for Cush too.
In any case, really happy to see Cush post such a great mark at this age. Goes to show that nice guys don't always finish last ... although Cush came close, running dead last for the first lap-plus of the race before rebounding to finish 13th out of 18. Hey, fastest-ever American for age 45 is still, you know, age 45!
Great job, Cush!!!
