Lindgren was much better, but Rupp is totally legit... Ritz got some special treatment: they let him into USATF champs when he was a fraction off the qualifying time, and his racing at USATF was what allowed him to run the 13:44.7.
Was it "unfair" that Rupp got Salazar as a coach, underwater treadmills, etc? Maybe a little. By the same logic, it was also unfair the Lindgren could run 88 mile long runs without getting 17 stress fractures like I know I would. I could probably never run again if I tried an 88 mile long run.
Life is unfair. People have different advantages. So far Rupp is the fastest ever HS runner over 5000m. That's the way it goes.
Rupp is the man. Lindgren is the man. Rupp ran faster than Lindgren. Lindgren was better overall.
