How's everyone doing so far and where are you? I'm in the Boston area. It's been snowing lightly for a few hours now. There's only about an inch or 2 so far. The winds are starting to pick up. Minnie Me declared a state of emergency and is booting all vehicles off the roads starting at 4 pm est. About 20 minutes from now. Anyone caught driving after 4 will spend the night in jail (kidding).

Just did a little shoveling, only two inches, a waste of time, but a start. Going for run #2, it's 4 o'clock should be no cars on the road.
Just knocked out a 10 miler in Bedford ... the cold was not the problem, but keeping your eyes open to see was a pain in the ass. My eye lashes had accumulated significant ice on them which became annoying, but otherwise it was a great run. Shorts, a long sleeve Dri-Fit, and gloves were all I wore.

NE only averages about 10" of snow a year thanks now to Global Warming. Back in the 70s, you could expect 75"+ every year.
So far about 4 inches. The winds are gusting to 30-40 mph. This is just the outer part of the storm. The snow will get real heavy soon. Winds will be 50-60 mph gusts. If I dont check back early tomorrow that means I lost power and suffering immensely. Sandy took out my power supply and cd/rom. Got to remember to unplug this tonight.

From the Mid Atlantic to Northern NE, you could expect brutal winters every year in the 70s to about the mid 80s. Grew up in the VA Appalachians and we would routinely have a month every winter where it wouldn't get above 20 degrees and the nightime lows were typically single digits to below 0. Nearby mountain set the state record in '85 at -35.

Um, the facts don't support your memory. Average snowfall the past 8 years in Boston is 48". 1970 to 1980 - 41".

Good. In Boston area too. Took the day off from work. I ran an easy 3 miles this morning around 9:30 when the snow was just beginning to coat the ground. Planning to run a low key race on Sunday and hoping it won't get cancelled. I can't complain too much though as overall this winter has been pretty amenable to outdoor running according to Boston standards. Hope roads get cleared enough to get a run in tomorrow afternoon. According to some long range forecasts temperatures will be rising into the 40s and 50s over a good chunk of the next couple weeks so hopefully the snow will be gone soon. And we rarely get much snow beyond March 10 or so.
Expect an announcement from the BAA tomorrow about the Boston Marathon being cancelled this year. No way they'll be able to clear all of the snow in time.
It's interesting. The snow is really getting deep up against the door. The wind is making deep snow drifts against the house. But there is no snow in the trees, and all my neighbor's houses have virtually no snow on their roofs. This wind might not be such a bad thing after all.
Glad I got my bread and milk though.
Took a walk around with the yardstick about a couple hours ago and we were already at 20 inches and it is still going strong. They stopped plowing in my town after a couple plows got stuck in ditches. Very glad I didn't have to work tonight.
