Have run the Rock N Roll Arizona every year, generally around 3:20. A couple weeks back, I thought I was in 3:15-3:20 shape. Hit halfway right on target, but around mile 18 started to slow. Had a personal worst at that race by nearly 5 minutes.
At first I thought it may be related to me following the Hanson's program. Still not sold on marathon training that maxes out your long run at 16. But then I got to wondering whether me having 14 beers Friday night before the Sunday morning race may have factored into the poor performance.
The more I think about it, the more convinced I am that it wasn't a good idea to consume 14 beers two nights before the marathon.
