Nice one. Good video.
consistent times 2:58, 3:00, 2:59, 2:59, 3:00, 2:58, 2:48, 2:58
Very slow 1km splits for a 3:49 miler, even if we are in November!
And I didn't even have to pay for a Flotrack Pro account!

I think the times are fine off only 60 seconds recovery. And no races coming up so no need to be smashing the speedwork.

Agreed.
No races? So he's retired?
That's very, very slow for an athlete of that caliber. Even for November. Even with 60 rest. Ah well, maybe it's his first workout since summer.

Perhaps doing workouts like this is how he got to be an athlete of that caliber.

Says a non-3:49 miler-know-it-all.
He should be okay with those as no race tactics are involved.
I would actually say that those are too fast for a miler in November! 9 months till the world champs next year. The top collegians aren't hammering 1k repeats in August. Same time frame as Baddeley doing this.
this was clearly a strength workout and not a speed workout. Slower reps, shorter recoveries, etc.

yep, this was simply a leg stretcher workout. it is obviously harder than easy, but it was quite a bit less than race pace and maximal effort. For these guys at this point in the season, they were more like tempo intervals.
depends on the purpose of the session for HIM - if it is much like like a daniels "cruise Interval" session, so a Threshold workout, then it is even perhaps too fast. Even as a combination Interval/Threshold session where Intervals are at 2.50/k and Threshold is at 3.10/k, then these are about right for him. They may be more race-pace reps for the other lads in the training group, however.

I'd be willing to bet that many of the top collegians did 1k repeats faster than 5:00 pace (unless my math is wrong) within the last month. Is that even tempo pace for a 3:49 miler?
you'd be surprised what constitutes tempo effort for a lot of milers.
You must understand that Andy and the others are following a traditional Nic Bideau style approach to Winter training.
Monday: two easy runs of 60 minutes and 40 minutes
Tuesday: 8 by 1k or 6 by 1 mile with a fast second last rep, pm easy run
Wednesday: 90 minutes
Thrusday: 8 mile tempo, pm easy run
Friday: 60 minutes easy
Saturday: hill session pm easy run
Sunday: 2 hour long run.
One must analyse the context of the training week before passing judgement. There is not much point blasting out some fast reps on Tuesday morning if you are legless for the tempo on thursday. Its all about small imcriments in a Winter training cycle. Racing workouts is not the way to go.
No, I understand all of that. A 3:00 1k isn't anywhere near a fast rep. Off the top of my head, I don't think it's even a tempo effort. It's almost an easy run pace.
