What are some of the biggest misconceptions or cliches that high schoolers and College runners have?

I (You) can't run D1, you're not good enough.

If you run too many miles in high school, college coaches won't recruit you.

Sex tires the legs.

Stretching is a warmup.

Milk causes side stitches and/or increases Lactic Acid build up.

That any of it matters

I don't know about high school misconceptions, but for some reason older runners think it is okay to wear tights without shorts over the top! Can you believe it?

"Professional Runner" is a real job.

I'm 48, been wearing tights since 1984, and shorts over tights always looks ridiculous. I'm running not going to the fu*kin' store.

Sorry. It actually entered my mind, but I was too trigger happy.

That things like genetic limitations or natural talent exist. Or at least thinking that those things are why you aren't faster. You aren't faster because your training sucks.

intervals stand alone

No prob. I wore shorts over tights until half way through my freshman year in college.

My experience has been that dairy has caused me side stiches, care to give a study that proves your claim?

Also, young runners, enjoy being on a team while you can, you will miss it once you get older.

That they won't get better after college. So many act like it's make or break in high school and college. If they keep it up into their 20s they'll become even better. Consistency over years is key.

That the NCAA is the big show.
