This was posted on Dyestat concerning the South regional results:
"Sensation of the day was homeschooled freshman Kate Albright, of Wake Forest NC. Albright wanted to run in the seeded race but was discouraged by meet officials. So she ran in the freshman race and won in 17:51, five seconds faster than the winner of the seeded race."

Ignorant question time: by virtue of her time, will she be able to run at the national meet? Or does one have to run in the big race to go to nationals? I suspect the later is correct, but the former would certainly be plausable in this case...
My understanding of the rules are, that one must compete in the seeded race in order to qualify for the national meet. Luckily she is only a freshman, but it still sucks!
Solinsky is ready to deal the cards. If the conditions were poor that is a great time and a dominating performance over excellent comp.
Athena,
Thank you for posting the results.
Sounds like Kate Albright should be going to the finals.
Want to hear something stupid! A coach didnt have one a girl run in the national meet and had her run in the fresh/soph race. She has ran in the 17's for 5k and ran in the freshman race. The girl is in the midwest region and i think could have made it to nationals with ease. Any comments on holding this girl out? Would you do the same?
Yes, Solinsky is the real deal. It was very cold and windy at Saturday's race---his time was awesome. They did change the course somewhat from last year; not as much mud, but still tough.
I also think Ari Lambie is the real deal. Her time is faster than what Roetter ran last year. I believe Nationals is going to be a foot race between her and Zoe Nelson of Montana.
Angela Bizzarri from Ohio won the frosh/soph race in the Midwest. Her winning time would have put her in 6th place in the seeded race.
Bizzarri won in runaway fashion and then wobbled through the chute and told her coach that she wasn't feeling good. Why didn't she run the open race and take a shot at a trip to San Diego? There were about 400 girls in the open race, including many freshmen---and runners of all ages---who had no prayer to crack the top 75.

Maybe she needs a new coach.
Maybe the coaches are somewhat to blame? Shouldn't they know the potential of their own runners? Just because the meet official suggests a particular race, doesn't mean the coaches/athletes have to enter that one. At least they are both freshman and have 3 years to qualify legitimately.
Did it ever occur to you so-called running "experts" that the coach may be taking the long view and sees the whole picture, what's best for a young runner?
As far as I know, Footlocker is a meet where athletes enter and run. Why don't runners wear their school uniforms in most cases? Its not a school event. I remember sending in my own registration when I ran FL. If I wanted to run the seeded race I would have signed up for it. Rather, I decided to go with the senior race. Don't blame the coaches. This isn't like other meets where coaches send in the entries for their entire team.
