Good decision.
all those generators used for lights and tents can now be used for all the displaced people and people who are neck deep in water

"NYC Mayor's Office @NYCMayorsOffice
We have decided to cancel the NYC marathon. The New York Road Runners will have additional information in days ahead for participants."
It's official.
They can also take all the bananas and bottled water to the people who need bananas and water.
I pity those who had travelled to come participate.
This should have been done on Wednesday.
Better late than never.......
Would you be comfortable if you paid money to run a race and someone took that money and donated it to charity without asking you (and didn't let you run the race)? Because if the race resources are used for relief while the race is cancelled then that's basically what's happening.
Once again Obama's America caved in to threats of violence. Another victory for the leftists and their street mobs.
So am I to expect every bunk in the hilton will now be properly filled up with displaced people. They better be if you are going to cancel.

IT WOULD PISS ME OFF! If I had trained, paid a crap load of money for a race, a hotel, and a plane ticket. Being a broke 26 year old and I just lost a bunch of money I would kick someones ass...
I'm sorry that this happened to everyone but you better refund the money to these runners. its not like this is some $20 5k

This is why I never have and never will travel to run a marathon in New York.
It's a disaster area full of people who thrive on disasters. If there's not one around they'll create one. The marathon was fine and they had to create a disaster out of that. It's an area that is ripe for disasters, a place to stay far away from.
F*ck those New York wankers. I'll cheer for the next hurricane that comes their way.

That'll make some of the a*shats on Fox News happy.
They were bitching about the race NOT Being cancelled.
Will Fox News be around to report on how the City has gone broke dealing with disaster relief and losing the tens of millions the marathon would have generated for the City? Of course not.
Did Fox News call on the Giants or Knicks to cancel their game? Did Fox News complain about all the hotel rooms that the visiting players are taking instead of hurricane evacuees?
Also, what are they going to do about World Marathon Majors? Pretty sure this was supposed to decide the women's race.
You guys are really sick... This city is really in bad shape. THe marathon exists on the goodwill of the people and that was not going to be in view this Sunday. THe Marathon creates a traffic nightmare all over town. THere is NO GASOLINE in BROOKLYN. NO SUBWAY BELOW 40th. We can't pull off a race. Not now.
The marathon exists on the goodwill of the RUNNERS who come to your sh1tty city.
I hope every runner goes down to Staten Island on Sunday and trips the residents that walk around there. Laugh at them, spit at them and throw some eggs too.
New Yorkers are "no, we can't" people. Losers, hypocrites, f*gs!
It makes me mad because NYRR worked hard long before this hurricane, long before people wanted to protest it as if it was their race and their decision. To some I may sound selfish, but ask the other 40,000 runners to be sent home and say "better luck next year" There really is no way to make everyone happy which is why I don't choose sides. Heck, this is the only forum that understands because Facebook and CBS is a non-running community and attack innocent opinions.

Can you please come down to NJ and tell me and my neighbors this?
We would really love to meet you face to face.
You may not get here easily. You have to stop and wait for ambulances to take some bodies and backhoes to haul away peoples living rooms from the streets.
You selfish little punk!!!!!
Strange that they waited to cancel until a bunch of runners had already flown into town, or were waiting at airports to come and would probably still come, and thus STILL spend a bunch of money in the city. It's New York. You can still have a lot of fun. Not sure this is why they waited, but it is true a lot of runners have already come in and spent a bunch at the expo and will be dropping cash for food and entertainment.
The city was in pretty bad shape after 9/11 too.
Give a bulk of the credit to Mr. Mike Francesca. A sports talk show host on WFAN NYC. Mike's show is the most listened to sports show in the country . He has been ranting and yelling about the mayor and nyrr going forward with the marathon. He had locals come on and tell their stories. He had police tell him how much it will hurt the ffort to help the hurricane victims. He made sure the mayor and everyone involved with the marathon knew that the majority of New Yorkers were against the marathon.
He played a large roll in stopping this race from going forward.
Thank you Mike
