I feel like she build this awesome aerobic base/strength over her years with wet more, and that translated really really well even in shorter distances for several years, and now she is just getting slowly further and further away from it, and will have to focus on that aspect once again for a long time if she wants to continue to improve. just my opinion...

kind of a baffling race. the pace wasn't even very hot. 2:55 for each of the first two Ks. Rowbury was looking strong with a lap to go, but it was hard to tell whether Belete's fall stopped her cold or if she was going backwards anyway, maybe contributing to the fall?

real bummer for Conley, too. She said in Flotrack interview she was expecting to make a big jump from 8:57 she ran indoors.

Rowbury is so consistent but it has been a few years since she looked to have a spark that would make her a real contender. She has run solid 5ks at Stanford in the past but DNFed this year.. hope nothing is wrong and she can find the spark she had in 08 and 09!

Rowbury almost went down with a fallen runner.

THis definitely hurt her performace, as she was co leader for good part of race.

cherono loked great, 58.9 close. belete cut on rowbury, fell and cut, ending rowbury's shot as well.

That's only four seconds faster than her steeple PR.

If you look at the race video, Rowbury was fading at that point, the injection in pace at that point was too sudden and too much for her. Belete off course did not help matters.

Remember this a few weeks ago. She needs help handling this. She is bordering on the classic one hit wonder who can't live up to her perception of others' expectations:

"I'm not sick. I'm not hurt. I'm not out of shape," Simpson said, breaking into tears. "I just had a shameful performance today, and I'm really sorry to all the people that care about me and work so hard with me."

"I have no excuse," Simpson said. "I'm in really good shape. The workouts indicate I'm in good shape. I'm ready to run. The one thing I could say, if I could give any tidbit to people following in my footsteps, it's don't let anyone talk to you about the final until you're in the final. It's so hard when you're a (world) medalist moving into the next year, especially when you have nothing like a crutch, like an injury or something to be like, 'If it doesn't go right, I can blame it on this.'

"I have nothing. I'm in great shape and I feel good. You just have to earn every single step, and I think I thought about the final before I had earned it."
