It's her second fastest time, with her fastest coming at Boston '11 (wind-aided, and only 61 faster, so a slightly weaker performance). Today's run was close to her NYC 08 run, but I think NYC is probably slightly slower, so NYC was a better run. I have to say that I'm a bit disappointed in her marathon career. ;(

I've yet to read anything that would explain not only Goucher's but Shalane's poor performance at London. Was it that 5:11 mile that the kenyans threw in around mile 16?
But I assume they would be training for that type of situation.
Poor performance? Goucher just changed coaches less than a year ago. Things take time. As for Shalane, she ran 13 seconds off her personal best on a slow course. The following are the times that the top 10 women ran compared to their personal best:

There's no shame in being a 2:25 marathoner, just in thinking that people should respect you as if you've already run 5+ minutes faster.

She's doing something none of us are: competing at the Olympics. She's no Paula Radcliffe but she's still a better athlete than we are.

So you're saying that Kara Goucher should be running a PB after a coaching switch 9 months ago? Just want to get your clear opinion. And you're also saying that Shalane Flanagan, who has run a grand total of 3 marathons, has reached her limit.
I agree with a lot of you that Shalane's been talking out of her league but don't let the cockiness blind you from seeing the numbers and using your common sense. To me, Kara looks like an iffy one on whether or not she'll ever run a great time again because it seems she may have become a head case after her incredible debut. But to say that she definitely won't after less than a year with a new coach is idiotic. And there's no reason to think Shalane won't run better than 2:25.

I don't see why you have to be so angry about this. I say that she hasn't had enough time with Schumacher. You disagree. Apparently she disagrees with me also. Her performance suggests that I'm right. No reason to resort to personal attacks here folks.
Wasn't the coaching change before Houston, like October or so? Goucher finished about where you'd expect. On a great day and faster course 2:22 to 2:23. Flanagan a bit off whilst losing 4 or 5 spots over the last stretch, a 2:20 to 2:22 on a great day. They are the best we got and we shouldn't bust on them.
