Advair and Thyroid Meds - Any Doctors?

I take Thyroid meds and they don't do all that much. What I wouldn't give to have my thyroid back working correctly !

Farah would need a medical reason to use them. You can't just dose yourself up with Thyroid meds.

There are many negative effects from being hyperthyroid, taking the medication would not help unless you really are hypothyroid. Taking too much can give you tachycardia, tremor, diarrhea, nausea, weight loss not things that are beneficial to distance running the last time I check.

Advair on the other hand is a little more of a gray area because it will help open the airway, but at the same time Rupp has a documented history of asthma so its warranted

Thyroid meds are frequently used by weight lifters to augment the effects of HGH.

Wrong on all counts. Thyroid meds lead the list of medicines prescribed for adults. Most of us are deficient in this area of medicine..

Is it true that these can be used as masking agents?

HGH use also throws your thyroid out of whack. Not suggesting anything, just stating a fact.

Facts:

There is no documented scientific proof that taking thyroid Meds boost endurance performance.

There is no documented evidence that Advair increases endurance performance in healthy individuals.

I am a physician and in my opinion there could be a benefit to SLIGHTLY boosting thyroid levels. Obviously making yourself hyperthyroid would not help. I would bet that slightly higher thyroid meds would speed recovery, decrease the risk of overtraining and burn more body fat. These things have ever been studied in an elite endurance athlete though.

The fact that Salazar has these guys on thyroid Meds says something though. This is not coincidence

I`m a physician and amateur marathon runner (need to work on this... a lot!). Despite being thin and tall, I found it takes so much work just to finish the thing...

I`ve grown a bit sceptical about people running in my age group (47 years) finishing sub 3 hours. Someone I know got a very `ruddy`complexion. My wife and I were surprised by his appearance (hadn`t seen him for six months). My wife`s a nurse...she knew too, we knew it. So sad.

I bought Salazar`s book as a great admirer of him. Now I read in a Belgian newspaper about this Thyroid stuff. In fact, Mo Farah and Galen Rupp use the same meds as `wrong type`veterenarians use in Belgian cows. Thyroid hormone increases aerobic consumption, burns fat, same story as with the inhalers. Don`t let yourself being fooled by the `hypothyroid`story. I work in a Pediatric ICU. Thyroid substitution was once being proposed as a treatment in these very ill patients: someone who`s very ill or stressed will demonstrate a decrease in the hormones of the `thyroid`axis. This is a normal stress response and is caused by the brain centers that control this thyroid secretion (just google thyroid substitution in the ICU for the interested). It is not the same as patients whose thyroid gland is not producing enough thyroid hormone. It`s plain WRONG to substitute this thyroid axis deficiency with thyroid hormones. How do we know this ? It was tested in several studies: the benefit is zero. Suppose that these athletes who train heavily have the same stress response as ICU patients. Their `smart`medical staff surely knows that thyroid substition is not a good indication. They should know. So, why do they take it then?

And sadly yes, HGH was also tested in ICU patients in order to help them survive. Alas, benefit zero again.

Don`t buy into the `stressed athlete`has hormone deficiency and needs supplementation. If they`re really so stressed out as ICU patients, they should be on a ventilator.

The only reason I can see for the use in athletes is the reason of my disappointment.

I only hope the Borlee brothers are clean. If they are, the more respect I`ll have for these great guys.
