Mortimer was in lane 2 on the straight and cut into lane 1 on Anderson on the curve. It was Anderson who was holding her position when Mortimer leaned on her. Still, no one was impeded, no one fell or was stepped on, no flag was raised, no one's stride was even altered. It was a competitive, physical race (as is the nature of 1500 semis) but all the runners had a fair shot and the best ones qualified. Anderson should be reinstated.
Agree. There was pushing and shoving from several, and it did appear that Anderson was responding to some pushing and leaning. European style racing, aggressive with no ONE person more at fault. Reinstate Anderson.
Exactly right. Not enough to warrant a DQ.
it was quite physical. Sarah V. pushed through on the rail against a few people, notably Alice Schmidt. What Gabriele did though was force her arm through and pull back on Amy M. It is one thing to hold your position and another to reach through with your arm/elbow and pull someone back.
Look at 3:26 into the race. Both arms are out ahead of her and pushing on both runners to clear space between the runners to move through. She got sandwiched and should have reacted sooner moving her whole body up to hold her spot - not reaching out with both arms to push the other runners apart. Just before the finish line going into the last lap Alice S. moved between runners correctly...splitting two runners without throwing out her arms to push them aside.
They Want another Nike runner in the final. They are not even attempting to replace the girl that Gabe "pushed" they are putting Alice into the final.
It appears that removal of her salivary gland has resulted in Beyautche's Syndrome whereby stress results in involuntary flailing movements of the arms. Ruling will be overturned on a medical. The other women in the final will be informed to allow for this disability.
Is there a link to the video? I haven't seen it, but I feel that at this stage, especially in qualifying rounds, you need to let something like this go!

"let something like this go" can also work to the disadvantage of a runner behind Anderson.

The thought crossed my mind. I wonder why the "foul" and decision came so late. Nothing mentioned and didn't see a flag. You hate to think it could be "politics" (and Nike) when so much as at stake. It seems the false start rulings have been somewhat subjective (some getting tossed and some given another chance), and this also seems a little harsh when there was so much aggressiveness in the race. FWIW, I would love to see Gabe Anderson in the Olympic finals.....you know there will be lots of "jostling"!
I assume that there was no protest by Nike's Jordan MacNamara when he was blatantly pushed by Adidas' Robby Andrews a few minute later. He still qualified. But if the Nike politics were really in play, he would have still protested to try to get Andrews out of the finals to give a Nike runner a chance to make the team. This didn't happen despite Nike's disappointment earlier in the year when Andrews spurned their contract offer.
exactly. regardless of "contact," that's racing, esp internationally. Here's my question, what is the trials supposed to replicate? if it's supposed to replicate the games, then there's GOING to be some push and shove. blatant crap, sure dq the person, but making space is perfectly ok. there may be smoother ways to go about it, but c'mon, this is ludicrous~dude~

I agree with you. She's a fighter. Right now I would love to just see her in tomorrows final. I think the way that USATF went around deciding the DQ among other things is just bizarre.
At the last possible moment I removed Anderson as my third pick in the contest and changed it to Schmidt. Still, I hope Anderson wins the appeal. Kid's got chutzpah!
Unbelievable, watched the video and I can't tell you how many times I have seen or been involved in some jostling or pushing in a big race. Especially in anything 1500m or under. Nobody fell, there was no flag...I think the USATF should be the ones being flag. Sad for the sport...
Link to video???
Oh who cares, we all know Barringer, Rowbury, and Uceny are going to the Olympics, not even sure why they are bothering with a 1500 trials!
Its obvious that "Nike" went back and replayed the video over and over again looking for anybody that beat Schmidt they could DQ. Since Anderson is a Brooks athlete it was a perfect fit for what they were looking for. There needs to be some transparency with these protests because it seems to be turning into politics and not about the athletes. When is the last time a non-Nike athlete has benefited from a protest? It seems like every year a Nike athlete gets bumped into the meet through protest whether by the Alan Webb way, Alice Schmidt way, or they get go down and somehow get into finals. This is racing and anderson did get physical but I have watched every race live and in the front row so far and there has been plenty of contact committed by other athletes that didn't get anybody DQed. If this was about Mortimier getting impeded then they would have bumped her into the final, but it wasnt. This was all about getting Schmidt in and using politics to make it happen. I can only hope its a Nike free Olympic team in the women's 1500.
How do we go by getting more transparency in these decisions and make the sport about the athletes again and not about Nike?
DQ or not this is racing. If these minor bumbs are such an issue here wait till London when they get smacked around from the start.
