I actually disagree somewhat that this was what running is all about. There was only 20 meters left in a track race. How did she know the girl wasn't going to be able to regain some strength and finish under her own power within the next few minutes? By helping her up that quickly, she should have disqualified both the other runner and herself. She was a more deserving first place finisher than the eventually "winner". I'm not criticizing her kindness or actions, but if that's my runner, I'd prefer they finish their race and then show their concern and support for the fallen runner after the race. If they were way out on a cross country course, I'd say helping might be the right thing to do, because of health concerns, but in a track race with thousands around, I'd say finish that last 20 meters and then show your concern for your competitor.
