No one should be 16th in the mile. There were at least 4 too many people in that race.
Who would you have left out? Meet organizers got a top-notch field and a fast, competitive race.
This isn't a championship or even a DL final. They can put as many people as they want in the race.
16 is fine when you have a rabbit. The field gets stretched out. It certainly slowed and bunched a bit after rabbit left but that was not the reason the americans did so poorly.
