I would most definitely take legal action. See if you can get the University involved, as this surely affects them too.

I'm totally disguted by the way people are acting. Any of you Texans out there question Rod when he was doing well? Or, more recently Mazano? No, so some prick got jealous, this has gotten a little out of hand. Way to Go Wes, I'll be cheering for you in Terra Haute on Monday!

All I've got to say about this whole situation is that, first and foremost, in the country, people are innocent until proven guilty. But another thing I'd like to say is that these allegations are very powerful. Never in the history of NCAA xc has an accusation of this caliber been made without there being some sort of reasonable valididty behind it. I think there are going to be a few heart broken people, on both sides of the issue, no matter how this situation plays out. But I'd like to go ahead and thank the LetsRun message board for letting all viewpoints on this issue gain their expression.

None of us know the real answer to this situation except for those who are close to Wes. The reason no one made any accusations towards Rod or anyone else from Texas is because not only did there performance progression increase in a less suprising fashion, but because no one close to them felt that any of these other Texans were actually doing something wrong. Now, just because these accusations are coming from former associates or colleagues doesn't mean they're undeniably true, it just means that they hold a little more clout than those of people who barely know the kid.

I agree that Wes is a hard working guy, EPO has no benefits if you don't train hard to begin with, it can not make Oprah Winfrey into Paula Radcliffe. It does however help in making a good runner a great runner. That is what it has done for Mr Keating turned him from a good runner (top 5 in all his meets as you said) to a much better runner top 3 at his regional.

So far none of the Keating supporters have refuted the original poster's claims. Why did he pass out at Pre-nats last year? Did he ever work for a pharmacy? What about the legs? Why did he not run for Texas CC after he passed out at pre-nats? And so on..

And none of this "I see him 24 hours a day" cause that's bs. Or "he works hard." Let's see some attempts to prove the allegations wrong. I think it's absolutely absurd that everyone on here bitches and moans about drug users, then when an acusastion comes up a load of people flock to this guy's defense. I'm trying to be as objective as possible, and guess what - Keating's supporters are doing a very bad job.

And let's get over all this patriotic crap. Only about 1/8 of the guys on here know the law in this country. "innocent until proven guilty," please.. There's no way that exists in american culture today, and I bet you all that have preached about it have contradicted yourself on multiple ocasions.

Maybe some actual teammates from Texas (the school he had to leave because he was on EPO) should come flat out and say it. Why not? It could save the kids life. EPO is extremely dangerous and the subject should not be ignored. I hope I can't have legal action taken against me for what I just said. Uh oh.

Coach Ricky- Maybe you should have Keating take a test for EPO...by the way what is his hermatocrit level at?

First of all the main thing that every one should be concerned with is Wes safety. We are there are irreversible effects that EPO have on your body, if not now, later in life. Worst case he has a blood clot somewhere in his blood system and dies! All of you UTPA guys that are his friends will feel very ignorant if this occurs, Have him tested for EPO! There is no reason that should not happen the NCAA should test him. Wes is a great guy but he is not legit......there is a reason he passed out and was in the hospital for two days. He was not to run at any other meets until he cleared the appropriate tests given to him. In order to drop his red blood cell count there was blood drawn from his system weekly. He was at a 57 count, this is not attained with out the help of outside stimulants. No matter how hard you train it does not happen your body can not produce red blood cells to this level legitimately. This is a very serious issue and it should be over looked no longer. What?s wrong with testing him.........Even after the race so he has no blood loss before the fact, if he passes great good job Wes your hard work has paid off........If he fails then he should be stripped of anything he had ?earned? as far as running is concerned. One more thing you should look at is natural progression you don?t go from being Joe Blow to Billy BA over night like he seems to have mastered this task quite well. In high school he did it and in college at The University of Texas in Austin. If and when he is hurt and or dies the NCAA should be held accountable for the chance that they had and did not take to help, and or save his life. There is more than a reasonable doubt that the is not legit. THE NCAA SHOULD BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE!!!!

I'm very concerned about Paula Radcliffe. She was losing soooo many races and now she is winning. I truly hope she's not on drugs and that she won't just keel over in a race.

They all appear to be different people copying from one guy's accusation, and making up a little extra stuff to stir up controversy.

Red blood cell counts are measured in millions per cubic ml. A normal value just off the top of my head would be 4-7 million. A value of 57 that is given is most likely the hematocrit or if you're old school, the packed cell volume. Both are roughly the same thing; The percentage of cells to plasma (liquid portion of blood) in your blood. A normal human hematacrit would probably range anywhere from 38 to 50. There are genetic disorders that cause people to over produce red blood cells. This necessitates that they make regular trips to the hospital to have blood drawn. Disorder which cause over production of red blood cells probably do not offer any competitive advantage because they are immature and poorly equipped to carry oxygen. If you asked a doctor why someone might have a hematocrit of 57, they would probably give you 10 different reasons before they suggested epo. Just a thought?

I know for a fact that Keating is on drugs. I've made phone calls to people who can actually do something (coaches and the NCAA) and all of them said they could do nothing. I'm very dissappointed in the fact that they won't even take the time to investigate. If he is innocent (which he is not) then what is the harm of an investigation. But if he is guilty (which he is) then he needs to be removed from the sport immediately. UT runners have been told to keep their mouth shut, because of conciquences to the UT Coach and Program. However, people need to quit trying to cover their ass and do what is right. When the UT coach knows of a drug cheat, yet still refuses to do anything that shows a lack of morallity on his part. Everything that has been posted is true.

#1 4th place in 26:11 in fair conditions on an average course, to victory in 24:11 in rainy muddy conditions on a hilly course. Could happen, not entirely out of the realm of possibility.

something serious enough to threaten the sanctity of the sport, not to mention the health of Mr. Keating. (im getting visions of lines from dead poet's society, "I said leave Mr Keating!" ) this has got to be at least investigated, this doesn't seem to be just a case of jealousy, i hope for Mr Keating's, the 5th guy from the south region's, and both school's sake that it is.....
