Do you not also find it ironic that he was struck by lighting and played for the CHARGERS?

POD
ESPN says his GF came home from the gym and found him dead on his bed with a gunshot wound to the chest. Who commits suicide by shooting themselves in the chest? Sounds like a very painful way to go. Weird. Really weird.
I just ate some Junior Mints in his honor. I feel better now.
The theory is he wanted to keep his head intact so it could be studied for brain damage like some other player did.
• In 1998, LB Doug Miller was struck by lightning while camping in Colorado. CPR was being performed on Miller when he was struck again by a second bolt.
MF'er !
A similar thing happened to Dave Duerson. He shot himself in the chest so that his brain could be examined for damage from football after his death.
People ought to stop supporting football. Too dangerous.

You have young guys that gets lots of money early on in their lives, that begets the "mo money mo problems" issues. (wives, ex-wives, child support, hangers on, failed business ventures, etc..) Also there's the fact that when you have something, you actually have something to lose. Once fball is over and the money is over, guys get desperate.

Did this guy leave a note or in anyway state that is why he shot himself in the chest? Seems like if you are thinking that clearly you are not yet at the point of suicide. But then again, if he had brain damage, who knows?
Yes, I recall reading that Duerson sent a text message just before shooting himself saying that he wanted his brain examined. They did examine it, and found significant trauma.
I think Junior shot himself in the chest too, right?
big deal...they are the idiots that choose to play this stupid sport that only americans play. Go running bitches!!! you will leave longer....

He didn't want to leave a nasty mess, like Kurt Cobain did. That picture of his headless torso and the related mess is unfortunately deeply etched into my memory. Just Google "Kurt Cobain Suicide", if you dare.

Seau sent separate text messages to his kids and ex-wife before he killed himself.
A guy on the charges killed by lighting - o the irony.
The weirdest one is:
"• In 1998, LB Doug Miller was struck by lightning while camping in Colorado. CPR was being performed on Miller when he was struck again by a second bolt."

Steroids? What would steroids have to do with a self-inflicted gunshot wound due to concussion related depression/dementia?
I've been saying it for a couple years now, the NFL has a HUGE legal problem and if there weren't so much money involved we'd see football, boxing, UFC banned.
There are studies showing brain damage from heading a darn soccer ball, let alone being an all pro linebacker for 12 years!
In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if head shots are banned from soccer in my lifetime.
One way the game could continue would be the development of a test for the genetic propensity to suffer cerebral degeneration post-concussion. Barring that, goodbye football.
"self-inflicted gunshot wound due to concussion related depression/dementia?"
That's a Carl Lewis jump to a conclusion don't you think? Just because this is in the news now automatically his suicide is due to head trauma??? Not so fast...
People commit suicide all the time, people who don't have head trauma, also there are plenty of fball players doing just fine, but hey that's not a fun story to write about.
Junk- you just jumped on the fastest moving train and made your conclusion. Knee jerk reactions, nothing more.
And as far as steroids- there's no way that guy played 20 yrs w/o juicing, and steroids have been linked to depression and suicide.
Im just not ready to chalk it up to one thing.
Greater tragedies occur every day to people living in the communities that you currently live in. I have similar feelings when entertainment figures die (m.jackson, w.houston) and on the same day a child is abused/someone is killed/etc.
The real tragedy is that our society considers this over-paid entertainer's death a tragedy.
Swallow the red pill and wake up.
Just because he had a job you don't like doesn't mean he didn't have a family and friends he cared about. That's the real loss.
