Alan just doubled in the 5k, 13:49. He was a rabbit and was supposed to drop out at 3k, but he instead tucked in the pack and ran the whole thing.

Webb ran 13:49

Runs 13:50ish? Under 13:50? Not sure, they mentioned it off hand after the race had ended.
3:38, 13:49. I don't think there is another American md runner that could do that right now. Am I wrong?
also, he ran that double with 40min rest in between. Webb is, improbably, showing signs of life!

Lagat. But yeah, good stuff. Glad he's 'training through' these... training's what he needs right now.
Look at his f'ing improvement curve you guys. He'll be in really good shape come Trials time.

yes you are wrong. lagat, lomong, rupp, an in shape teg.
Rupp and Teg are not mid d runners.

neither is lagat anymore
NOT a particularly strong 1500 group in ths US this year? What are you talking about?

Yes he is.
Absolutely phenomenal double for Webb.
Not to mention he did the same double a week or two ago with MORE rest between events and ran significantly slower at each distance.
ALAN WEBB: I STILL BELIEVE.

Talking about the world group. Compared to past Olympic years, it's not an overwhelmingly strong group. Sorry, not particularly impressed with Kiprop. He's an arrogant braggard who has proven to be inconsistent. Don't really see him going down in the books as one of the greats.
Now the real question is: Will Webb rabbit the 10k and break 28:00?
are you kidding me? there couldn't have been more then 10 mintues between his 1500 and 5000m. are you f-ing serious. he was in heat 2 of the 5000 which was the second race after his 1500m.
is there any way he has done serious speed work this year if he is still doing these doubles?
and does anyone remember that webb has run most of his career races (hs and pros) after doing doubles like this?
one last question. does anyone know what in the hell is going on with alan webb besides himself and his coach?
He led the first half of the 5000, too. This should get the "move up" crowd going again.

There was an entire heat of the women's 5000, plus it seemed like it took them an eternity to line up and start the men's heat.
According to the schedule, his 1500 started at 7:46, and the 5000 started at 8:13. They've been within a minute or two of schedule. So, he started that 5000 within about 25 minutes of finishing the 1500.
Which is great. Don't get me wrong, I'm not dissing it. It's awesome, especially in light of his recent performances. But let's not start exaggerating and saying he did the double on 10 minutes recovery. If we do, let's wait a couple years before embellishing it to legendary status. Or at least let it get through the night.
Alan Webb is making good progression, but Lomong just ran 13:11! wow... I was just thinking about of Webb's 5k pr from a long time ago. It looks like Lomong could be rounding in to really good form, maybe fitness indicating much faster in the 1500...

I know this has been pointed out repeatedly - and cynically - for the last year and a half, but the guy ran 3:53 in high school. He is good at running faster than other humans. There are a lot of us that are glad he's back.
Nice double for Webb! Racing himself into shape- old school.
