Spent an enjoyable weekend watching Penn and the Jamaican High School Championships of America at Franklin Field.
It got me to wondering about the average age of these "youngsters".
I'm guessing 21 years old.

They're only one year older than US HS'ers... same as several other countries that have grade 13.
The same age Verzbikas was as a high schooler, 20-22.
Why in the eyes of LRC are all foriegn born non white high schoolers too old? What would these kids get out of lying about their ages? Track and field is an objective sport where when some of these kids go pro they will be paid based solely on their times. There is just no reason to lie about there ages.
Assuming you are talking about participants at the Penn Relays. I did an analysis years ago and I think the average I came up with was around 18.4 for Jamaicans and the U.S. was 16.9. The Jamaicans were about 1.5 years older, but generally only the best athletes come to Penn, which are usually juniors and seniors. I would guess the actually age difference only about one years for H.S. school students.

R u kidding me?
We have seen this story play out in plenty of sports, including track. If you rise to the international level as a "Junior" and do well you will have many doors open for you that would not otherwise. To shave a year or 2 off of your true age gives you a huge advantage over your competition.
Duh.
A country of over 3 million people with roots to western Africa, a place where the sports heros are sprinters. What do you think we are going to see?
