For the record, 41 seconds 300 pace is 1:49 800 pace. In El Guerrouj's WR in the mile, he went through in 55/1:51.
Even drugs don't explain this. If the track wasn't (a lot) short, those have to be martians or something.
Short track speed running?

Li ran the last lap in 56 seconds when she won the World Championships, so she could easily run a FIRST lap in 57.
There's a lot of mention of the men's times being average but there is one from the 1997 games that seems...off... Sun Ripeng with an 8:10 steeple.
When Jenny ran 3:57.22 last year in Paris, she went through 300 in 47 and change, not 41/57. Drugs/illegal tracks, and everybody knows.
Remember these same athletes went to the WCs and demolished all the known stars. Radcliffe was almost a straightaway behind.
They may have been doped but they actually were fast on legit tracks too.
Their running style tells you nothing.

But wait, Yunxia didn't come through 300 in 41, she was 42.5, and by slowing down to 15s for the next 100m, she matces up well with the official split (of the leader) of 57.2.
Pace: 400m: 57.2 800m: 2.00.7 1000m: 2.33.0 1200m: 3.05.2 Final lap: 60.3
Yes. Anyone who believe these records is a fool and while I don't know if it was a short track, anyone who believe the Chinese were incapable of doing such a thing are fools too.
If you're willing to cheat, you're willing to cheat and rigging up a short track would be one very easy way to do it.
