Probably also a decent appearance fee.

And don't forget the post-race bananas and bagels.
Yeah, the day he got the American record in the 5000 should have been a strong indicator that he should focus on track some more. He's definitely capable of sub-27 10K. With a solid uninterrupted year of training under his belt, he could be metal contender. Just don't know if he'll have that for the Olympics.

which riz it wrote:point of the thread....Ritz rarely, RARELY ever finished this high in a race.
What about the 2009 WC 10k: 6th place?
When he says high, he means high as in place number, rather than finishing well in a race. Thus 14 is higher than 6. There are certainly many many instances of ritz finishing better than 14th which is what OP was getting at.

Metal contender? Perhaps.
Medal contender? No chance.

That just shows you how little even a lot of runners know about the professional end of the sport. I know a fair to middling runner, good enough to be pro but with a real small contract, who would complain about $500.00-600.00 appearance fees because he had to pay his agent from it.
If a guy who can't break 14:00 gets that what does Ritz get for a race like NY?
His PR is in the 27:20. I am not saying that he can not do that but I am not going to assume he is in PR shape.
Did he not just PR in the marathon two short months ago?
His best distance is 10k against the world but he can't close faster than 27 high the last 200 and would never medal. Actually he looks like a guy that could hammer with the best in the world at 4 miles to 15k in an all out fast race from the start.
Mary Wit loves Ritz and pays him well every time he races in NYC. $10,000 minimum just for showing up, doing the interviews and finishing.
Graeme is absolutely correct and one of the few on this thread who understands it. I was thinking $10 or $20k, but 10k is probably closer to the truth (i guess only ritz will know for sure, right). Doesn't Ryan Hall get 50 or so for the chicago marathon..? i may be underestimating this one but i know letsrun has reported the real number in the past. good for them though, they've earned it!
ritz half is "equivalent" to a 212 marathon...
not bad for the first step down.
ritz is just getting back into it, so the 209 and 61high are very good.... baring injury, ritz should contend in the 10k trials but the 5k might e a stretch...
then again salazar is getting the formula just right for peaking,...
I agree ,
Given his steady training and racing the last few months , prior Oly trials experience , depth chart of 10k field , he has very good shot at making the team.

Way off , not even close on this one. $2500 tops.
Hall $75k plus for Chicago.
When he ran his 10K PR he ran a 60:00 half a little later. Last weekend he ran 61:52.
