No chance in hell the median time is anywhere near 14:17.

I post under a different name now, but that time is sposed to be a track time. Crothers put it in the road time.
I would say the average pr for males on this board is in the 15:45 range. Makes me good to think that I am above the average in something.
14:08 woohoo fastest in the thread so far.
Median for males has to be about 18:00, maybe 22:00 for females.
14:06... used to be 14:14 in the day of the statman.
I would say average is around 16:45.
Mine: 16:30
LR average: 16:50
5k road: 17:08 last summer.
No 5000 on the track.
I'm in my early thirties and only running semi-seriously for a few years, so I expect most college runners to be much faster than me - I kind of assume this is the letsrun audience.
And yet, at road races from 5k to the marathon, I routinely beat a lot of college guys, who don't seem to be taking it easy.
I'll say the letsrun average PR is 16:00, and season's best (2011) more like 18:00 due to the has-been factor.
14:59
I've been posting on here for 10 years, so if for some reason I made that up I'm sure someone could figure it out.
Did you skeptics think long and hard about some of the reasons the average PR here is different from your Saturday morning BK "Race for the Whopper" 5k?
Letsrun average: 15:00 for collegiates, 17:00 for everyone else, and about 16:00 overall for guys.
Me: 16:36 XC
Of course I have a lot of excuses for that one, but it is what I ran.
To clarify: by collegiates I mean anyone good enough/motivated enough to run in college, whether past or present. There are a surprising amount of kids from my tiny home state who have gone on to run in the 14s for 5k after high school, enough to make me definitely believe how many really fast people are on here. It's like going to a major online weight lifting forum and asking how many of them can bench 315 or deadlift 500. It's way more than you want to believe at first, but it's those diehard participants that are going to get geeky with each other on websites sharing dumb stats like these.

Well, he's a lot faster than I am these days as I have chronic calf problems that keep me from running much (and consequently helps keep me fatter than I want to be), so props to him.

Great example of why we love Flagpole around here. He's generous and gracious even after Nikeman acts like an immature ass.
Mine: 14:26
Average: 16 flatish?
I would say 'most' high level collegiate runners in the US go to Letsrun at least occasionally, although I guess if you only count regular posters the average might be quite slower.
Mine: 15:04
Average: 17:30ish
5k PR: 17:14, 17 years ago.
Now: 19:47.
Average male LRC: 16:00
Average female LRC: 20:00
I am a very black and white guy, and I don't let negative emotions enter into my decision making. I value fairness above just about anything else.To continue with that fairness, it should be noted that nikeman has a marathon PR that is faster than mine.

22:45 for the record slow pr
I never broke 17, but got very close. That was nearly 30 years ago. I cannot even sniff 17 minutes today. I would guess that many of the old-timers are like that. They are at least 2 minutes slower than their PR.
I have no problem believing that any decent, dedicated distance-oriented runner can get down to, say, 16:xx
Why do I say that? I'm 180-185 and struggle to get 19:30, and did around 18:40 IIRC after losing, I think, around 7 lbs.
When at the gym, I imagined how hard it would be for me to run with a 45-lb plate strapped to me--that's a lot of weight!
So you 135-140 lb guys out there, what do you think you could run with an additional 45 lbs strapped onto you? 19:30, right?
Ultimately, I have no problem believing that I could do 16:xx or 15:xx if I were only 135-140 lbs, and no problem believing that others could do it as well.

I know how you feel. I am about 40 pounds heavier now than my peak running weight. I have lost about 7 pounds, too, but am not quite where you are. It would be fun to watch the 140 lb. crowd racing with a 40 lb. weight vest on them.
