Ayele Abshero was world Junior XC champion in 2009. He ran 59:42 for HM and defeated K. Bekele over 15K in 2008.
Markos Geneti was world indoor bronze medallist in 2004. He beat Gebrselassie over 2 Miles indoor in 2004 and won Los Angeles marathon last year in 2:06.
Tadeses Tola ran 59:49 for HM and 2:06 for marathon. He won Paris in 2010, was second in frankfurt in 2010 after Wilson Kipsang and fourth in eindhoven last october.
Dino Sefir Kamal ran 59:42 for HM, was third in OTTAWA marathon last year and 12th in World XC champ. -
I appreciate you clearing this up. Why were they overlooked in the preview?
-
What happened to all the Kenyans? Only 1 in top 10. Ethiopia strikes back.

They weren't. Ethiopians have first, second and third names. Most of the time, they're referred to by their first and second names. For this race, they were entered as their first and third and names. -
I am not surprised that runners can run under 2:05. I am shocked at how many now are regularly running under 2:05. You need to be a sub 2:05 man to be in the top tier now and there are lots of them! I think 2 hours will be broken in my lifetime.

Hall might as well just give it up. Become a short order cook and specialize in French toast. Add a dash of cinnamon to the eggs and milk and they'll come back for more. Or thump a bible somewhere.
He's so done. -
Right NOW Hall will still receive more appearance money than the top 3 combined from Daegu. Soory folks but those are the facts.

And know one suspects drugs as a reason for the SUDDEN increase in marathon speeds?
-
One time i had a 5some with 4 guys who go sub 2:05

Ten years ago, there were more opportunities to compete at 10000m, and even 5000m. Now, if you're a 13:00 or 26:50 man, even a 19 year old, why waste your time if you're not winning medals? You could run 13:00 for 200€ or you could take that speed to the marathon and take a shot at winning $250,000 like Abshero did today. Or even $25,000 at a lower level marathon. It's not a hard choice. -

Should every player on every team who didn't make it to the Super Bowl give up?
I don't get that attitude by some (I assume very young and naive posters) that there should only be a very small group of runners- the ones with a chance to win a medal. -
Yes, a new era in marathoning. Start young and go for the $$$. Seems though, most of the big names disappear at the Olympics (testing?). Martin Lel finishing 5th and not breaking 2:10 last Olympics. We will see what happens this year with the slew of sub 2:05ers that should toe the line.

The last two Olympics weren't exactly run in ideal conditions. And it's a marathon. And you had two guys who didn't fall off hard in the heat in Beijing. Lel was 24 seconds away from a medal in Beijing. Hardly a failure. -
Alright, I am not Ventolin^3 but I also can make predictions:
First the facts:
- Fastest Marathon debut ever on a legal course
- guy is still young (around 21....well, you never know)
- Dubai is always warm weather, race temp >60F
- pacing was off/all over the place
There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that this guy is a thread for the WR, unless he becomes another Duncan Kibet... -
obviously a combo of more talent going to the roads (money)
and new undetected drugs. don't be naive. -

I love that: a 47 second high school 400m runner trains like a middle distance runner and runs 3:53 and it's the rebirth of American distance running, but a 21 year old world junior cross country champion and 59:42 (and probably better than that) man runs 2:04:22 and it's some magic bean that's just been imagined. -
The guys running these times don't have ridiculous track PRs. There are no drastically new drugs, and if there are they're worse than the old ones. The marathon has exploded because there's lots of money on the roads and next to none on the track.

Name one???????????
