Anyone else notice that Galen Rupp is entered in the marathon trials???
Anyone else notice that Galen Rupp is entered in the marathon trials???
Not a bad idea- long enough before track trials to recover if he had to.
It's not unusual for people to enter races they are qualified for but never run the race. This is most likely the case with Galen.
When Rupp commits to the marathon, he'll dominate Ritz, Hall, etc. If he runs, he'll sit on Hall's shoulder and beat him in the last mile.
I would love to see Galen run the trials and get his butt handed to him. You guys think that Galen is something special when in reality he has yet to win the big one. His workout schedule has no structure and he would get easily owned by Meb at the trials.

Stuck with match.com, I guess you still haven't found a date yet. That must be frustrating.
I have no idea whether Galen will run. But if he does, the question will become which one of Meb and Ritz fails to make the team.
If he´ll run well, the team would be Hall, Meb and Rupp (Ritz won´t do it)
Conceivably he could run, win a spot, and not do the Olympics. I think he is totally committed to the 5000 and 10000 but running a marathon right now could fit in with his training.
Could it be that he does run, takes out the pace pretty fast, which lengthens the field out, then DNFs, while his teammate Ritz just sits behind him until he drops out and ensures a top three finish?
I wouldn't be surprised if it's all just a ploy.

Great. He should run, and do his best to qualify.
Rupp is qualified. That doesn't mean he will run. To run he would have to declare, and no one can declare before 1/9/12.

Does anyone else think this would be kind of a dick move on Rupp's part? I mean, the guy is one of the best in the U.S. at the 10K. Why should he displace people who are pure marathoners and don't have another event to run? Just enjoy being the best at your own event and don't screw things up for the marathoners. If he wanted to switch to the marathon completely, that would be one thing. But to just run the marathon as a side thing while still concentrating on the 10K isn't cool.
No. Nobody else thinks this. Why? Because sitting out an event to give someone else a chance is great for club sports in 6th grade. It has no place in picking competitive national teams.
I doubt Rupp will really run. But if he decides to I think he will be awesome in this event - possibly at the Ryan Hall level (please note the word "possibly" all the idiots who just can't wait to say, "he hasn't proven anything at this distance...").
I wish him (and Hall and Meb and Ritz and the rest of them) all the best. May the best three qualify and represent the US at the Olympics.
What's the big one? A US championship like this? Because he's won a bunch of them.

Exactly what Solinsky is trying to determine at this very moment. He will probably sign up for the marathon trials too, and then be prepared to drop if/when Galen & Salazar trick him again and don't show up.
Such a chess match.
The same can be said for other top guys (meb and dathan) who have won US championships in the 5000 and 10000. Just because Rupp has not run a marathon yet, does not mean that he is not meant to be a marathoner. And if he makes the team, then he is one of the top 3 in the US and should consider doing both marathon and 10000 in London.
stick to your own event, rupp wrote:

Clearly that is not a concern of his. Remember in the trials when he raced in the prelims of the 5k after announcing he would not run the finals if he made it. He displaced somebody from making it to the finals which was a really d*ck move on his part. In addition he celebrated when he won despite the fact that everybody else was chillin. Yeah the guy is full of class.
Galen Rupp is a bad@ss. All you haters need to stop hating.
Solinsky is done. Surgery for a hamstring attachment!? Can you say, Adam Goucher!? I saw the Badger hobbling down Main the other day...
