You obviously were not there. He was WAY back and moving up fast.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CBkO3_kpJaAThis is the closest video that I could find. He moved to the front of that pack (that's 3rd with Puskedra) before he went down.
He's in 6th there in a big pack and goes down 10 meters later. He was not in 3rd. I agree that he could have been 3rd in that race but don't post crap that isn't true. He was not in 3rd when he went down.

Well, I was there and standing about 25 meters from where you that video was taken, which means I was still facing them when he went down.
In the video he's clearly in about 7th-8th place, and then a few seconds later he goes down. That's the reason she flips out, and the dude asks "where'd he go".
Yes, German had made a big move up late in the race to go from ~30th to the top pack (well, top behind Rupp and Chelanga who were way out in front). Yes, one can speculate that he was ready to roll and would have come out on top of that pack. He certainly looked smooth moving up. But he always looks smooth.
But that's not the same thing as saying he was in 3rd. He wasn't. He was in ~8th. He had moved in to the top 10. He had moved up to the front chase pack. Those are all accurate. 3rd is not.
One could also speculate he would have finished ~8th. Keep in mind, until he went down, he ran every single step of that race with John Kosgei, who finished...8th, right where he was when he went by the camera... And in the past few years, despite looking really strong, German has not demonstrated no real ability to separate himself from Colby Lowe at the end when running side by side with him for most the race.
I think it's fair to say he was on his way to a top 10 finish, maybe better. Not accurate to say he was in 3rd.
GF is about to have one hell of a track season.
His team got second. They wanted more, but that's still damn good.
It doesn't matter what you all think. This is what he thinks:
"A top 10 finish is legit. While I am sure everyone would love to see him up with Derrick, German came out, ran tough and led his team to a second place finish. Criticize him all you want, but his team won three trophies in his four years. Impressive."
==================
I cannot believe the inconsistency of these posts. First off, GF was not a top ten this year, he was 11th so let's not exagerate. Secondly, though his OSU team was on the podium three times, GF was of little help on most of these teams. Once year he finished 150th or so, and another year he fell down and didn't even finish. He did help his team this year, but has really not had a stellar XC career as so many predicted (but seem to be forgetting now). On the track, he has been INCONSISTENT (very good, mediocre and just plan bad). Derrick and Puskedra on the other hand have been very consistent in XC and have helped their teams to not only high XC finishes but also to high T&F championships. I (and most others) probably would have to rate both Chris and Luke far ahead of GF at this point.
-------------- ---------------------- German ran a decent race- and maybe an excellent one, considering his summer. But the "staying back, run in a group and conserve for the team" talk has become overblown. It may help some in some circumstances. But the top 10 teams with the shortest time difference between runners 1-5 placed 8th and 9th. Plus, despite very few exceptions, most know their limits of pace to avoid blowing up. To sit back and conserve is to give up points- esp. if all/most of the top 5 are doing it. For OSU to have a championship shot, their guys had to go a full 100%, not conserve. And he anyone replies it risks falling below 2nd place- then that's loser talk for a legit contender.
It is amazing how nagging injuries can derail an elite runners career.
You are kind of an idiot. Wait. Scratch that. You ARE an idiot. You would rather have a consistently good career than one that was riddled with GREAT moments? Dude holds a WJR and an individual title. That trumps runner up finishes any day, no matter how many of them.
Take it from someone who's won a lot but finished second many, many more times: One win easily outweighs 10 2nds on the same stage.

Ummm..hate to break it to you but out of three team podium finishes, German was 11th or better overall in two of them. As a result, it can only be said that he "was of little help" on ONE out of three podium teams. So, one out of three is "most"?
You are really very stupid.
at u.s. junior xc he proved that he was a better xc runner at full strength than derrick or puskedra, and he confirmed that at world junior xc, even though he was injured. so, this is great that he finished a season healthy and it was his second excellent xc nationals finish, but we still have not seen the attempt to go for the win at nationals and this says that he has the opportunity to have a great base for track but he still seems to be behind his shape as a freshman.

Pure Shexxx is a typical LR poster. First off, it does take and idiot to think he/she knows an idiot, and to be foolish enough to call one an idiot. And we all know that idiots lack either the vocabulary or the IQ to communicate or understand this.
Winning or finishing second is really pretty inconsequential when one is an eight year old, and based on his comments, Shexxx was obviously an eight year old when his serious racing took place.
Most of us have enough sense to know that a career with consistent and gradually improving great races far exceeds a career riddled with great moments early-on, to be followed with inconsistency and mostly poor results over later years. EOT.
I would be surprised if he turns pro.
you fuken son of a beatch you itself being born was the worst thing that happened to the world since world war 2 you fuken ashole next time yo say that think about it twice first of of all I want to see you beat him in a race I would put everything on the line saying that you fuken idiot would of course lose now that you know the truth you retarded ashole I could tell you that german fernandez's worst time would be better than yours anyday you cant't say that hes not good because he obvioulsy is amazing if you would never be able to beat him so shut the fuk up you retarded idiot!
