http://www.runnersworld.com/article/0,7120,s6-243-544--7471-0,00.htmldoesn't Nate Robinson hold the Washington State Record for the 110 meter hurdles?
He would be my bet for 100 meters,
10k I would go with Nash, (soccer biased) or Rip Hamilton (pretty sure I read he runs like 3-5 miles a day and runs a decent mile.
100m
1) Nate Robinson
2) Marion Jones
3) Rajon Rondo
1500m
1) Steve Blake
2) Rip Hamilton
3) Earl Boykins
10K
1) Ricky Rubio
2) Luke Ridnour
3) Steve Nash
I think Peyton Manning would be pretty good in the 100m.
Allen Iverson
I don't know how he would do is a 10K, but I worked with him on a project the summer before his first NBA season and he could hold his own with me running suicides. Allen was wearing shorts that came almost to his calves, bulky basketball sneaks and the gym temp was about 90 degrees. I was the one who cut it short, but Allen said he was just getting warmed up. Btw, I was in 36 minute 10K shape at the time.
If you have never played organized basketball, you may not know what suicides are; there are many variations, but to keep it simple, it is stop and go sprinting on a basketball court, which after a few minutes becomes more like an endurance workout.
Also, I think Wilt Chamberlin ran XC.
It's hilarious to meet that RIP has gotten the kind of attention that he has for being the best conditioned professional athlete. Seems weird to me that I have a full set of varsity girl who condition more than him (yes I know it's xc) but still....I do not share the love that everyone else does for RIP. I'm sure there are plenty of pro's that run way more -- they're just not out there to be the Dean Karnazes of the NBA.
RIP HAMILTON IN THE 10K... ALL DAY
Nate Robinson did set the state record in the 110 hurdles (13.85s) back in 2002. As of 2008 I know it was still the record, but I don't know if anyone has broken it since.
One of the best races at the state championships that year was in the 3A finals when Nate placed second behind Shelton Sampson in 14.09s, with Sampson finishing in 13.88s.
Robinson also ran a 38.13s in the 300 hurdles, and long jumped 22'2.25" at that same meet. I don't know how these compare to his best marks, but he placed 2nd in all three events.
Based on this it looks like he would be competitive with the best in the NBA at most events up through the 400m, including the jumps.

"an eight-mile race in about 42 minutes without training"
That had to be an 8K.
That's what I was thinking. There is no way he ran 5:15 pace for 8 miles. 8:20s pace for 8K / 5 miles is way more realistic. Besides, where in the world do they have an 8 mile race?[/quote]
Are you serious? One of our better high school basketball players ran a 10 flat 2 mile when he was a sophomore in high school and you are trying to tell me it isn't possible for a training maniac who was one of the best all time in the NBA to not be able to run at 5:15 pace for 42 minutes? Stockton was 6 ft and probably weighed about 165 at the time. I would not doubt at all that he could run that fast.
Allen Iverson. I did a research project on the guy years ago and he could run a 4:30 mile in high school. Plus the guy is super tough. He'd keep pushing no matter what.
Who really knows. Nash has been a primarily successful due to his shooting ability, esp. his 3 pt. shot. I don't see any reason to think that he would be a great runner.
I wonder what Dennis Rodman could have done in the 5K. He was known as a work-out warrior. He used to do a 40 minute stationary bike workout after every game.
I doubt that very few bb players could run even a 5K. I once read that VA coach Terry Holland was a runner and every year would offer extra playing time to any player who could beat him in a distance race. Despite the incredible competition for minutes, no player ever took him up on the challenge.
This is an interesting topic but most people on here are dumb.
The last straw for me was dude above me who knows nothing else about Steve Nash other than how he shoots 3's. Then something about Rodman on a bike after games? Some people get on the bike DURING games. Finally, he doubts a basketball player could run a 5k. I think some of you "runners" out there are giving yourselves too much credit. These are professional athletes, k?
Stop it. AI did not run a 4:30 mile in HS. He never ran track, Urban legends claim he ran 4:24. Not true.
AI is completely fast twitch, an amazing athlete, but these bs stories have got to stop.
It's Rip Hamilton, he trains like a runner. No question.
He's retired now, but Kerry Kittles just had the look of a 400 runner. He had the Jeremy Wariner body type.
I'd double Rubio in the 1500 and 10,000.
Back in the day, I'd have put Charlie Ward in the 100. Now, I'd be forced to run Derek Rose.
AI did a workout once where he smoked a 440 mile in a pre-season workout in basketball shoes. Dude is fast.

Not bad, but...
Nate wins the 100 with ease.
Who the hell Steve Blake? Rip probably wins the mile, he's way too big to run a decent time, but I honestly can't think of anyone else who does that amount of conditioning.
Nash has the old man strength to clean out Rubio and Ridnour (never heard of this guy either) in a 10k.
No one mention LeBron again. 6-8, 260 does not allow you succeed in any sort of running event, sorry.
