Ugliest, and saddest girl names are the ones that are really boy names (Leslie, Adrienne, Claudette, etc.) for the reason above. These names suggest that the parents wanted a boy. Girls with these genderized names quite often have daddy issues and develop mannish personality characteristics in my experience.
On the other hand, I find the practice of adding a 'y' or 'ie' to the end of so many girls' names repulsive in that it assigns a childishness to the woman's identity that is particularly perverse in adulthood. How can you take someone who calls herself Suzie or Betsy seriously in a professional environment?
