No I actually could not find the information I wanted there.
800 m 2:06.53 Horace Grant (56) BatonRouge, LA 2009-Jul-25
2:10 would put in the top ten US right now.

You obviously get an idea of what a good time is from these lists but they are not complete. I know of guys who've run faster than times listed- I guess it's just a matter of reporting times- they can't print what they don't know. But, I can run faster than 44:00 for 10k in a training run. I just never get the chance to run a track 10K.
Only two men went under 2:10 last year in the world for M55:

30 were under 2:17 (world), which is about the time required in this year's WMA Champs to make the final.
Track lists are quite accurate for top men up to 1500. Above that road races take precedence and there are no accurate listings for age-groups on certified courses.
World lists:

USA site gives link to world list!

Local meet could be anything. I reckon if you go sub 2:30 you will be competitive at 55. Even if there are faster locals they are normally concentrating on the roads

USATF.org has US indoor and outdoor records for masters.
Decent time for a local meet depends on where you live. Best is to go to one and find out.

Hmm I have a friend who is 56 and runs low 2:13s. With some focus, maybe he could run some records.

What guys, all we here is talk and no names.
Local guy here went maybe 2:11 a few years back--at World Masters championships--and placed near the top, I think 6th or 8th. At 60 he was 2:17 and was 2nd at US masters championships.

Do this local 55 year old man have a name, are you just one more ass hold posting.
The command of the written English language on this thread is overwhelming.

2:13 would win most local races for 40 year olds; I assume it would be a world class time for 55 year olds. 2:30 as actually a respectable time for a 55 year old. - What is your friend's name and what area of the country does he compete?
