When in sprinting shape, no specialized distance training outside of what he already does.
I'd say 4:50. Does two laps in 2:22, fades hard to a 81, closes in 67.
When I did some sprinting in middle school I ran the PE mile much faster than when doing nothing at all. And the amount of training that Olympic sprinters do all day really adds up. But I think you need to work on endurance to get into the 4:40s.

Not really. Running distance is difficult for pure 100 meter guys, but not so much for 400 meter guys. Remember, Bolt started out as mainly a 400 meter guy. I'm saying 4:35

Worst case scenario 4:59 (he doesn't push very much)
He is in amazing shape and on that alone I bet he could be in the 4:30 range if he pushed hard. But for 5k 19-20mins.
i doubt he could manage 5:30. for the 5k a 22 minutes at best.
I've seen decathletes run sub-5 off sprinting training. If they can do it so can he. I'm calling 4:45

If athletic middle schoolers with very little training can run sub5, then so can Usain Bolt. I feel like he could run 70s pretty easily considering he was a 400m runner. So I'm gonna say 4:30-4:40

Bolt ran the mile when he was younger. I'm sure he could be pretty good at it if he trained.
I would guess under 5. But no faster than 4:40. He's fast, but he's heavy and probably has poor aerobic fitness. A 70 sec quarter would probably feel very easy for him, but after two laps or so his lack of aerobic fitness would start becoming more evident and he would run a very slow 3rd lap followed by a less than beastly finishing kick in the final lap. My prediction:
400m: 68
800m: 71
1200m: 75
1600m: 73
Mile Time: 4:49 - 4:50

Maybe he can run 4:40 and maybe not, but either way this is a terrible argument, and it gets used way too often on this board. It's kind of like saying, "I've seen athletic middle schoolers with very little training dunk a basketball. If they can, so can Galen Rupp."
I'm going to say around 4:20. I knew a sprinter in high school who ran a 4:22 1600m for fun off of pure 200m/400m training (21/47). Since Bolt can run a 44 400m that means he would be way, way under 2:00 for an 800m (probably 1:50 or so). Even at a massive rate of diminishing returns I think he could hit 4:20.
That is not exactly true my friend is a sprinter but he also is undefeated in our cross country league (5k). His mile is 4:58.
lap 1 = 50 seconds…walk/rest for 20 seconds
continue this for next 3 laps…which might get a second or two slower each lap..
= roughly a 4:30 mile.
somehow I feel like he can at LEAST be under 4:40 and maybe 4:30, just from general fitness. its not like he has NO cardio. his agility is amazing and his training promotes some cardio definitely
bolt is too lazy and shiftless to run a mile or do anything else that lasts for more than 30 seconds
