So I, like many of you, am putting in a summer base. However I'm on the border of making my team (we have a time trial each season to see who gets to stay on the team) so I need to still be in somewhat good shape come August. I'm running in the range of 70-80 miles a week and I plan to soon start racing a mile or 800 or whatever every week so I don't forget my speed. I don't want to lower mileage for these races but I'd still like to do well. Right now I'm doubling around 5 times a week. Typically when I do the shorter run first and my main run later in the day, I can't really tell if the shorter run helped or made me feel better because sometimes I feel good sometimes I don't.
So my question is, should I just run once the day before the meet and then do a few miles the morning of the race, or run twice the day before the meet and then not double the morning of the race?
