I agree with the general them of the posts on here. I, too, get SO SICK of seeing the men, year after year in championship races, run what amounts to a quick warm-up three laps and then race a 400 meter relay (a 400m with a running start):
- This type of race does not determine who is the best 1500m runner. It determines who is the fastest 400m runner. Centro clearly has great 400m speed and can probably go low 47, maybe high 46 in a flat out 400. Even in his top gear, he hasn't seemed to be straining which means he can even go a bit faster. That ability, however, does not mean he can run a world class 1500. Back in the late 90s, I used to tire of seeing Fermin Cacho of Spain essentially do the same thing......use blazing sprint speed to win jog-and-kick 1500s, although he did eventually surprise everyone by running a 3:28 PR in his prime.
- My hat and total admiration is off to Christin Wuerth-Thomas. She gave an outstanding post race interview as well....a very mature and sharp individual. I hope she is able to go to Europe and improve on her sub-4:00 PR.
