So this quote is from Chris Solinsky based on the coaching approach of Jerry Schumacher.
I kind of find it insulting to all runners who have towed the line with a higher class of athletes to aim for a personal record without having an intention or really a chance to win the race.
I do not think Luke Verzbicas entered the Pre two mile with the mind set to go for the win.
But he did set a high school record.
Should he even have laced up his spikes and gotten on the starting line?
I know I have entered races where I wasn't thinking about the win but thought it was worth it to line up.
I am sure Solinksy has done that as well.
There are often many subplots within a race besides who will cross the finish line first.
It is one of the more intriguing things about track.
The win or nothing mentally makes a good quote or sound bite but it doesn't hold much value when you look at it truthfully.
