I'm a second year college student who enjoys running. I ran a little cross country in HS. I'm going to run a sub 5 min 1600 in August and I'd like to know some efficient ways of getting there.
I ran a 5:22 (73, 81, 86, 82) three weeks ago. I've been working on speed work (4x400 in 70-75, 8x200 in 35-37) lately. However, I feel like my top end speed, or maybe speed endurance, is what's posing such a challenge. For example, my fastest 200 is around 27/28 and 400 is around 60/61. I ran an 800 in 2:29 today at about 90-95%. Maybe I need to work more on 800s to better my 1600?
