Howdy y'all, I'm moving from Madrid to Minneapolis next year and was wondering if any natives had some training tips for the winter and/or for training with a strenuous weekly bike commute. I ran cross in high school but played baseball in college, so i'm just getting back into running shape (17:10 5k last week), but am a bit worried about 6 months of legendary MN winter taking a toll on my training and breaking my spirit completely. i went to college in MN so i know how crazy those winters can be, and have certainly been spoiled by Spain's eternal spring. I'll have a 28mile commute round-trip bike commute to my job (working 45-60hrs a week, depending on the month), so i'm not super worried about aerobic base in the fall or spring, but how should i get running miles in on top of that? Do I just have to treadmill it in the winter, or can it be done outside? I'd love to hear any advice from you guys about what's worked for you (e.g. masters runners working similar hours, hardcore bike commuters, whatever!). If I can, when the weather's decent i'd love to get in around 40 to 50 miles a week, just enough to get to decent weekend warrior shape, nothing crazy. Thanks in advance for your help! Can't wait to taste that hot dish after a good hard training session...
