I am a former D1 800m runner who hasnt run much for the past 6 years. Trying to get some back some sort of shape and would appreciate some help. I have been going to the gym but I am overweight (195, 6ft 2) compared to when i last raced on the track (165) No plans to race again but would like to lose a bit of weight and run around 40min for 10km. I seem to have two possible strategies.
Run at a decent 7 min mile pace for 10 minutes and try to build up the time.
Run a very slow pace for 40-45 minutes and try to get quicker.
I have tried both but not much happening, i am able to run 3-4 times a week either on the road or on a treadmill at the gym. I am 35 and when fully fit in the middle of winter training my best ever 10km was 32.40.
